Gallup: The American People Strongly Back President Obama In Stimulus Fight

In a poll released just today, Gallup finds that Americans strongly support President Obama's efforts to fix the crumbling economy. Those surveyed were asked if they approve/disapprove of the President's handling of the economic stimulus plan, of the Democrats in Congress or of the Republicans in Congress. Here are the numbers:

President Obama:

- approve 67%
- disapprove 25%
- no opinion

Democrats in Congress:

- approve 48%
- disapprove 42%
- no opinion 10%

Republicans in Congress:

- approve 31%
- disapprove 58%
- no opinion 11%

It could not be any clearer: the American people want President Obama's plan enacted into law... and they want it now.  Republican obstructionists are playing with fire by using mickey-mouse tactics to delay the bill and by lying again and again about the true nature of the legislation.  Have they learned nothing?

Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and Tennessee's two GOP Senators should get out of the way - now!

FOX News Poll: Economic Stimulus
Thursday, January 29, 2009
By Chris Anderson
Americans are skeptical that an economic stimulus plan from the federal government will help the nation’s economy. This is perhaps due to the fact that most people think that the elected officials in Washington working on the plan are part of the economic problem as opposed to the solution.

Less than half (45 percent) of Americans think “Barack Obama’s proposed $825 billion dollar economic recovery plan” will help the economy. Twenty-nine percent think the plan will not make a difference, while 18 percent think it will hurt the economy. Democrats (63 percent) are much more likely than independents (43 percent) or Republicans (22 percent) to think the recovery plan will help.

Considering opinions regarding politicians involvement in the economy, it is somewhat surprising that as many as 45 percent of Americans think a plan out of Washington will help the nation’s economy.

Just 27 percent of Americans think elected officials in Washington are part of the solution when it comes to improving the economy, while 61 percent think they are part of the problem. Republicans (75 percent) and independents (66 percent) are more likely than Democrats (46 percent) to think politicians are part of the problem.

No problem. The Gallup poll is found at their main website, click here:

CNN/Opinion Research had similar results (actually a bit more favorable to Obama) on the same day. Pew also found similar strong support for the President's Economic Recovery Plan. Maybe Fox News's poll is the outlier. Care to link to it?
